My favorite part of going to the airport is relaxing in a lounge, which up until a few years ago I had never experienced. Once I got my first premium credit card with this perk, I was hooked.
Airport lounge access is a benefit that can transform a stressful travel day into a much more comfortable experience. But not all lounge programs (or credit card access policies) are created equal.
With recent changes in to guest policies and lounge partnerships, travelers need to know which cards still provide the best value for both solo flyers and those traveling with companions.
Which Card Offers the Broadest Lounge Access?
The American Express Platinum® Card (and Business Platinum) continues to lead when it comes to breadth of lounge access:
- Centurion Lounges (25+ locations and growing)
- Plaza Premium Lounges (hundreds worldwide)
- Priority Pass Lounges (twithout restaurant access)
- Delta Sky Clubs (cardholder only, when flying Delta Main Cabin or higher)
No other single card combines such a broad mix of proprietary and partner lounges. While competitors like Chase and Capital One are building networks, Amex currently offers the widest reach—especially for international travelers.
Credit Card Lounge Access Comparison

| Lounge Networks Included | Centurion Lounges (25+), Delta Sky Clubs (when flying Delta), Plaza Premium, Priority Pass | Priority Pass , Chase Sapphire Lounges (8 open) | Priority Pass, Capital One Lounges (5 open) |
| Guest Policy | $50 per guest at Centurion (unless $75k annual spend); Delta guest passes extra, $195 for authorized user with lounge access | 2 free guests at Priority Pass and Sapphire Lounges | Currently allows guests, but from Feb 2025 guest access will be restricted (like Amex policy) and authorized users will cost $125 for lounge access |
| Strengths | Broadest global access, large Centurion network, premium international lounges | 2 free guests, Priority Pass with restaurants, growing Chase Sapphire Lounges | Lower fee, strong value with $300 travel credit + anniversary bonus, simple structure |
| Weaknesses | Strict guest policy without high spend, Sky Club only for cardholder | Smaller lounge footprint compared to Amex/Chase | Guest access policy tightening, smaller proprietary lounge footprint |
| Best For | Solo frequent flyers, Delta flyers, international travelers | Couples/families who want to bring guests, | Travelers wanting premium perks at lower net fee, occasional lounge users |
Best Credit Cards for Sharing Lounge Access & Guests
This is where things shift. American Express has one of the strictest guest policies. Unless you spend $75,000+ annually on the Platinum Card, you’ll pay $50 per guest at Centurion Lounges. Capital One Venture X is set to adopt a similar policy in 2025, reducing its appeal for families and couples who rely on bringing guests.
In contrast, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® continues to allow two free guests at Priority Pass and Chase Sapphire lounges, making it a stronger option for travelers who value sharing access.
However, two standout cards for generous guest access are:
- Ritz-Carlton Credit Card (no longer available to new applicants, but available via upgrade from a Chase Marriott card):
- Unlimited Priority Pass guests
- Free authorized users with their own unlimited-guest Priority Pass
- Unlimited access to Chase Sapphire Lounges for the cardholder
- Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite Card:
- Priority Pass with unlimited guests
- Includes restaurant access
- Ability to gift up to 4 Priority Pass memberships, no authorized user required
For those who travel with family or larger groups, these two cards remain hidden gems.

Recent Guest Policy Changes
The last two years have seen major shifts in the lounge access landscape:
- American Express Platinum – Expanded Centurion and Plaza Premium partnerships, but guest policy became stricter, requiring high annual spend ($75,000).
- Chase Sapphire Reserve – Still allows two guests and launched more Sapphire Lounges, but only eight locations are open compared to Amex’s much larger footprint.
- Capital One Venture X – Started with strong lounge benefits, but the 2026 guest policy changes (no free guests) have weakened its long-term value.
Bottom line: Amex still wins on coverage, Chase wins on guest policy, and Capital One is for affordable access.
What’s Next: Lounges to Watch
Over the next 12–24 months, the rankings may shift again as banks expand their branded lounge networks and introduce new concepts:
- Amex Sidecar by Centurion: A smaller, more efficient lounge model designed to reduce crowding and expand reach into more airports.
- Chase Sapphire Lounges: New locations will expand their footprint.
- Capital One Lounges: A few new openings on the way, though growth is slower. I’ve personally really enjoyed these lounges.
As competition heats up, the quality and location of lounges will matter as much as raw network size. Travelers will increasingly choose cards based on where they actually fly—not just the headline lounge count.
Final Thoughts: Best Cards for Lounge Access in 2025
Here’s the quick breakdown:
- Broadest Lounge Access → Amex Platinum
- Best Guest Policy → Ritz-Carlton Credit Card (via upgrade) or Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite
- Best Balance for Couples → Chase Sapphire Reserve
If you travel solo and value its annual credits, then go with the Amex Platinum for its unbeatable network size. But if you travel with companions often, consider the Chase Sapphire Reserve or one of the guest-friendly alternatives like the Ritz-Carlton Card.
If you budget conscious, often travel solo, or with one person you can add on as a user, then the Capital One Venture X offers the best value for the least amount of fees and easy credits to use. The full review on the Venture X, and this comparison of it to the Venture may help you decide on which of these cards to get for standard 2x earning everywhere.
