One of the main reasons my family and I choose to visit Cancun, was just to go to the Xcaret parks. With so many to choose from though, it can be overwhelming to decide which ones fit your interests.
We planned to maximize our three night stay at Xcaret Arte by doing three parks, but found that was a bit ambitious. After visiting Disney countless times, we thought the knew what to expect from a theme park, but Xcaret was completely different.
Whether you’re staying at Hotel Xcaret Arte, Hotel Xcaret México, or visiting independently, this guide breaks down all of the Xcaret parks and tours, what makes each unique, and how to decide which ones are right for your vacation style.
What Is the Xcaret Parks Group?
Xcaret (pronounced “sh-car-et”) is a family-owned company that has created a network of eco-adventure parks and tours throughout the Riviera Maya. Their focus is on sustainability, cultural preservation, and natural beauty, offering something for everyone — from adrenaline junkies to culture lovers to families.
If you stay at Hotel Xcaret México or Hotel Xcaret Arte, access and transportation to all parks and tours are included in your All-Fun Inclusive® package. If you are staying off-property, you can choose from a variety of tour packages, some of which include meals or transportation.
Xcaret Park: The Original Eco Theme Park
Perfect for: First-time visitors, families, and culture lovers seeking a full day adventure.
Xcaret Park is where it all began — a massive eco-archaeological park set on the Caribbean coast. Here, you’ll explore underground rivers, see native animals, and experience authentic Mexican traditions. It’s located close to the Xcaret Hotels, with a free bus going there every 20 minutes, making it a must see.
This park is huge! There are a variety of ways to organize your day, with both water and land activities available. I suggest doing what we did and starting with the morning river swim, having lunch, and then walking back through the park towards the exit, seeing all your favorite animals along the way. Take a break and freshen up at your hotel before returning back in the evening for the show, “Xcaret Mexico Spectacular. “

To note is that the river is not a lazy river, rather it’s an active swim directly through the park. Instead of using a locker, leave your belongings in a bag with the staff at one end and then claim it at the other end of the river. It is securely locked with a key you’ll keep on you during your swim. You’ll be provided a fins, mask, and snorkel- but you could also bring your own or choose to just do it in water shoes.

It can get hot and there can be a lot of walking, even with this limited itinerary suggestion, so take breaks. There are also animal interactions available a an extra cost, like swimming with the dolphins and the sting rays.
The included lunch is a buffet with a bar that had a variety of mojitos and other drinks. The buffet had a nice variety, but was nothing compared to what’s available at the hotels. We just stopped in for a light snack of ceviche, chips, and drinks to hold us over till later. What was really nice was the live band playing in Mexican style while we were there. For more information on dining at Xcaret Arte see the full guide.
Highlights:
- Swim or float through three underground rivers carved through limestone.
- Visit a replica Mayan village and explore cultural exhibits.
- Watch the iconic “Xcaret México Espectacular” evening show featuring over 300 performers.
- Enjoy wildlife exhibits.

Xplor: Adventure & Adrenaline Underground
Perfect for: Thrill-seekers and adventurous couples.
Xplor takes you deep underground — and high above the jungle canopy. It’s all about ziplines, amphibious vehicles, and caves. This was our favorite park, as you are truly immersed in the caverns and get to experience them like never before.
All the activities are super fun, the main concern is leaving enough time for making the lines. They have a board with current wait times posted, but sometimes it was inaccurate. Go take a look at the ride, it might just have cleared out or had a bunch of people line up since it was supposed to be short.

The slide is great for everyone, but does take quite a walk up. The zipline is definitely for those that aren’t afraid of heights. The amphibious vehicles are atvs that you drive yourself, so if you have a good (or fun) driver in the group, it’s a blast!
Xplor also offers an ATV experience at an additional cost which are more like four-wheelers. The amphibious vehicles were more than enough for us, so unless you are super into off-roading, you’ll be fine with the included attractions.
There are lockers where you can access your items at any time. Do bring a towel and closed toe water shoes. A GoPro or phone in a waterproof housing is great for this park, though there are plenty of photo stops if you buy the package. Helmets are required to be worn almost at all times. This park is not really about the food but there is a buffet restaurant and a snack/juice bar.
Highlights:
- Soar on the highest zipline circuit in the Riviera Maya.
- Drive amphibious ATVs through the jungle and flooded caves.
- Paddle on underground rivers illuminated by stalactites.
- Swim through cave systems filled with natural light.
Tip: Visit Xplor Fuego for the nighttime version — everything’s lit by torches for an otherworldly vibe.
Xplor Fuego: The Park After Dark
Perfect for: Night owls and adrenaline junkies seeking a unique adventure through the dark forests and caverns.
Xplor Fuego transforms the same Xplor park into a fire-lit nighttime experience — complete with ziplining under the stars and torch-lit rivers. It is open until 11 pm, making it a fun way to end your day.
They truly close in between the hours of 4:30 and 5:30 pm as they shift from Xplor to Xplor Fuego. Get there during that window to be first in line and stay late to enjoy the quiet river atmosphere.

While there are two paths during the daytime for the amphibious vehicles, there is only one available for at night for Fuego. It is a really cool route, driving through caves and forests that feel straight out of Jurassic park, with a fire surprise at the end.
The zipline stops running their long circuit as it gets later in the night to prepare for closing, so make sure to be doing that by 9 pm. It’s truly not for the faint of heart, as you literally leap into the darkness off the platforms, only seeing your end point lit up. It was a super fun and heart-pumping adventure that lasted around 30 minutes to complete the long circuit.
The stalagmite caves are truly magical at night. We did the underground swim close to closing, making it a peaceful, refreshing dip to end the evening. There is both a longer and short circuit for the swim.
Think ahead about your dinner reservations if you are staying at one of the Xcaret Hotels. It may be better this day to just plan on the buffet before leaving or plan on eating at the park. We did Xplor Fuego on our first night at Xcaret, which worked out perfectly since we had a late lunch.
We also managed to squeeze in another visit before a dinner reservation, but we arrived early to be first in line to just do one ride. Do keep in mind the time it takes to get there. Transportation can take up to 30 minutes from Xcaret Arte since it is the last stop on the route. However, you will get back quickly as the hotel is the next stop after Xplor.
Highlights:
- Night ziplining, cave swims, and jungle ATVs.
- Buffets and drinks included.
- Shorter lines than daytime Xplor.
Xenses: A Mind-Bending Half-Day Park
Perfect for: Instagram lovers, families, and creative travelers.
Xenses is a sensory park designed to trick your mind and awaken your senses. It’s ideal if you’re short on time or want something visually stunning. This park only takes half a day to fully explore, but there are a variety of both wet and dry activities.
There are fun selfie opportunities, an experience through the dark (using your other senses to guide the way), a waterslide, a short zipline, a river swim, and a full on muddy immersion. This park is close the Xcaret Hotels, right on the bus loop, so it’s easy to visit.
Highlights:
- Walk through optical illusion zones like the tilted Pueblo.
- Float effortlessly in salt rivers.
- Fly like a bird on Superman-style ziplines.
- Capture surreal photos and videos.
Best for: Half-day fun or a rest day from bigger parks.
Xel-Há: Natural Water Park with Tulum Visit Option
Perfect for: Swimmers, snorkelers, and families.
Xel-Há is a natural aquatic park built around a huge inlet where freshwater and saltwater meet, creating an ecosystem teeming with fish and mangroves. It is located close to Tulum, which makes it convenient to combine with a visit to the ruins there. The tour that combines a visit to Tulum includes a 45 minute guided tour and 45 minutes of free time.
There is also an option to combine Xel-Ha with a visit to Coba, which is an ancient Mayan pyramid you can climb. However, that ends up taking up most of your day and you won’t arrive to Xel-Ha until 1:30 pm.
You’ll need to reserve your visit to Xel-Ha ahead of time. For those staying at the Xcaret Hotels or booking a combined tour, your visit includes transportation, but it only runs at the scheduled time. The bus leaves at 9 am for the park only, or 7 am if visiting the Tulum ruins, with a 5 pm return. If you’d like to return earlier, you have to catch a taxi.
Activities include a tall waterslide, option to float or snorkel through a mangrove forest, and beachside adventures like ziplines, a ropes obstacle course, and cliff jumping. Don’t expect incredible food or strong drinks while here, but enjoy the natural surroundings and family-friendly vibe.
We originally planned to visit this park, but were exhausted after two days of park visits and hadn’t yet been able to do the water activities at Xcaret Arte. If you have to cancel your trip, be sure to do so more than 24 hours in advance to avoid the cancellation penalty.
Highlights:
- Unlimited snorkeling in calm lagoons.
- Cliff jumps, lazy river tubing, and ziplines into water.
- Option to have buffet restaurants and open bar included.
- Scenic trails.
- Huge water slide.
Best for: A relaxing, all-day water adventure surrounded by nature.
Xoximilco: Mexican Fiesta on the Water
Perfect for: Groups, couples, and party lovers.
Modeled after Mexico City’s famous floating gardens, Xoximilco offers a party on a colorful trajinera boat, complete with mariachi, tequila, and dancing. This located closer to Cancun, so expect a longer drive to get there.
You’ll receive a sampler platter of Mexican dishes, but plan to eat beforehand to make up for the smaller portion sizes. The main draw is the party atmosphere and drinks, making for a very different cultural experience compared to the other parks.
Highlights:
- Ride through canals under string lights.
- Enjoy Mexican food, drinks (tequila!) and music on board.
- Interact with live musicians and hosts.
Best for: Fun-loving travelers looking for a night out Mexican-style.

Xenotes: Cenote Adventure in the Jungle
Perfect for: Nature lovers, photographers, and small groups.
Xenotes is an intimate guided tour exploring four cenotes (sinkholes). Each stop offers a different activity like swimming, rappelling, ziplining, and kayaking.
Wear a rashguard for sun protection and a little layer against the cold, crisp, cenote waters. Also be sure to wear water shoes. Think about buying the photo package for the unique shots they’ll get during the trip.
If you only have a few nights at Xcaret, then consider the fact that this is a full day spent away from the resort. For the budget conscious it may be better to stay somewhere else cheaper and book this tour.
If you are not staying at an Xcaret Hotel, and you’d rather not do some of the activities (just swim), then use one of the many tour operators that offer similar cenote tours. Be aware of additional costs that may not be disclosed at booking for lockers, life jackets, drinks, and towels.
Highlights:
- Visit four distinct cenotes — open, semi-open, cavern, and ancient.
- Small group tours with lunch included.
- Adventure + education about Yucatán’s geology.
Best for: Off-the-beaten-path explorers who want a personalized experience.
Xichen: Full Day to Chichen Itza
Perfect for: History buffs and those wanting to explore all the highlights of the Yucatan
Visit the UNESCO world heritage site, Chichen Itza, on this full day tour from Xcaret. The tour starts with a three hour journey to Chichen Itza, where you’ll get a guided tour, followed by a buffet lunch in Valladolid, and finishing with a visit to a cenote for a swim. The deluxe and classic tour vary in the restaurant, beverage inclusion, and cenote.
For those staying at the Xcaret Hotels, this tour is also included, but there is an approximately $30 per person entrance fee for Chichen Itza that is additional. Be sure to bring an umbrella or hat, it is extremely sunny there.

Instead of a full day away from Xcaret Arte, we chose to do a shorter tour without the cenote visit while we were staying at a different resort, the Hilton Cancun. That way we wouldn’t miss out on a day at Xcaret, but still had an all-inclusive to return to enjoy the pool and dinner.
Highlights:
- Visit one of the 7 wonders of the world, Chichen Itza.
- Enjoy a buffet lunch in the beautiful town of Valladolid.
- Swim in a refreshing cenote.
- Included transportation for the three hour each way commute.
Xailing: Ferry to Isla Mujeres or Catamaran Cruise
Xailing is the name for both two tours and a ferry service to Isla Mujeres. Island Mujeres is a cute, touristic island off the coast of Cancun. It has a long shopping and dining street, Avenida Hidalgo, and gorgeous beaches. We loved visiting this island to get a more local feel and timed our visit with whale shark season. Swimming with the whale sharks was absolutely incredible and I highly recommend it!

The Xailing ferry goes to Isla Mujeres and runs hourly, expect for at 3 pm (see schedule). The boat is large, new, and well kept. When you buy a ticket it also includes entrance to their scenic lookout tower at the Embarcadero in Cancun, so make sure to leave extra time before or after your ferry trip to check out the views. There plenty of seats both outside and inside (with air conditioning).
Tickets on this ferry and transportation to and from the embarcadero are included with your stay at Xcaret Hotels, but do need to be booked in advance, as it as created as a full day tour.

It is not included on checkout day though. We used this ferry on our checkout day to go from Xcaret to our next hotel in Isla Mujeres, and both the transfer and ferry was at our own expense. It worked out well, despite the added cost.
The Xailing catamaran cruise tour is a full day experience with snorkeling, lunch, and time to explore Isla Mujeres. The light version includes a visit to a reef, a boxed lunch, open bar, and free time to wonder Isla Mujeres. The Prime version still includes the snorkeling and free time but upgrades you to a buffet lunch and visit to Za Za beach club.
