There are some cities that make an immediate impact on you. One such place is Copenhagen. It’s a little unexpected and that’s probably what’s so great about it. It was the city I spent the least amount of time in since it was just a quick layover stop, but is one of the ones I loved the most. The airport really is an unbelievable less than 15 minute metro ride from the city center, and so we were able to spend about three hours in the city. The efficient metro is stunning enough, but the fact there was no obstacles forcing you to scan your pass was remarkable. My family and I got off at the stop for the beautiful Nyhavn area pictured above(by the way everything was pronounced completely different from what you would think) and were amazed. “This looks like Disney World! So that’s where they got the idea from…,” were some of our first remarks. We grabbed an ice cream and explored the area, taking in our first time in Europe, little did we realize that there’s a real storybook quality to so many of the places we would soon visit. Later we started walking towards The Little Mermaid Statue, but realized we wouldn’t have time and instead looked at the Amalienborg Palace and a church we passed along the way before heading back to the airport. Thoroughly impressed by Copenhagen and wanting more, we were energized for our next short flight and can’t wait to return in the future to this under the radar gem.
