3 Best Ways to Spend 75,000 Capital One Miles (That Aren’t Gift Cards)

When I first got into credit cards, I had no idea what I was doing with points. When I got an email for a special offer on Apple gift cards, I went for it thinking it was a good deal to take the sting out of buying a new iPhone. Little did I know that those points probably could have gotten me a free vacation.
When I got my Venture X, I was determined to use those miles smarter. Years later and those miles have taken me around the world in style. While it can still be tempting to “erase” your travel purchases, think of all the exciting ways the Capital One Miles can be used for way more value than a cent per point.
If you just hit your sign-up bonus on a Capital One Venture X or Venture card, you’re sitting on at least 75,000 miles. By using their transfer partners, you can turn those 75,000 miles into over $2,000 in real travel value. Here are the three best ways to spend that stash in 2026.
1. The Luxury Hotel Hack (Preferred Hotels & Resorts)
Partner: I Prefer Hotel Rewards
The Ratio: 1:2 (75k Miles = 150,000 Hotel Points)

Capital One doesn’t have your traditional hotel partners like Marriott or Hilton, but they have a secret weapon-iPrefer’s network of luxury hotels peppered across the globe. While Citi recently reduced their transfer ratio to this same 1:2 level, Capital One is the clear winner here because the Venture X earns 2x miles on everything—plus massive “points back” via the Capital One Offers page.
- The Redemption: You can stay at five-star icons like The Thief in Oslo, The Hollywood Roosevelt in Los Angeles, or the Alohilani Resort in Waikiki.
- The Value: The sweet spot is properties that range from 15,000 to 50,000 points per night. Your 75k bonus effectively gets you 3 to 10 nights at a $600/night luxury resort.
- It may also be worth staying only a night or two at some of the spectacular hotels in the 75,000 to 150,000 point per night range. Think castles in Ireland, slopeside boutique hotels in the Alps, and stunning beach resorts.
- Transfer Bonus Alert: Capital One sometimes runs 30% transfer bonuses to I Prefer. If you time it right, your 75k miles could turn into 195,000 points.
This “150,000 point” hack is the most underrated move in travel right now. While everyone is fighting over Hyatt availability, you can use your Capital One Venture X miles to book five-star castles and boutique resorts that most people think are “cash only.”
Many of these hotels are also bookable with Choice points due to their partnership with iPrefer. Compare the rates by going to the specific iPrefer landing page and logging in. Although Capital One only transfers 1:1 to Choice, the points rates are different through their program, so always compare them before booking.
Choice also frequently runs points sales where you can purchase points for around 0.75 cents each. Buying points can be great option to top off a redemption or save significantly over cash rates when booking an iPrefer hotel through Choice.
Step-by-Step: The iPrefer Transfer
The “I Prefer” program (Preferred Hotels & Resorts) is a unique partner. Because the ratio is 1:2, your 75,000 Capital One miles instantly become 150,000 hotel points.
Step 1: Create Your Account First
Before you touch your Capital One dashboard, go to iPrefer.com and create a free account.
- Why? You need your member ID to link the accounts, and sometimes new accounts take 24 hours to “verify” before they can accept a transfer.
Step 2: Search for “Reward Nights” (The Tricky Part)
Unlike Marriott or Hilton, I Prefer doesn’t always show a “Points” button on the main search page.

- The Fix: Search for your destination and dates using the “Cash” filter first.
- Once you click on a specific hotel, look for the “Reward Nights” or “Points” checkbox on the room selection screen.
- Alternative: Login- Then go to the Offers tab > Click Reward Nights
- Filter for your desired hotel by country and city or browse the map view if it’s not listed.
- Great for browsing when you don’t have a particular destination in mind.
- See Frequent Miler’s full guide to booking iPrefer Hotels for more details.
- The Math: Stays typically range from 15,000 to 150,000 points per night. If you find a luxury stay for 50,000 points, it only costs you 25,000 Capital One miles.

Step 3: The “Instant” Transfer
Once you’ve confirmed the hotel has “Reward Night” availability for your dates:
- Log into your Capital One account.
- Navigate to “View Rewards” > “Convert Rewards.”
- Find I Prefer Hotel Rewards and enter your member ID.
- Transfers are usually instant, but I always recommend refreshing your I Prefer browser after 60 seconds. If you do two subsequent transfers I found that the next one was delayed by about half an hour- so try to calculate correctly the first time.
I had a fantastic stay at The Sommerro Hotel in Oslo which is part of both the iPrefer and Choice programs. The location was central and the entire hotel is stunning Art Deco gem with well-designed rooms, a beautiful spa, and a variety of restaurants, one of which had a nightly live jazz band that made you feel like you’ve gone back in time.
I booked my stay at a rate of 20,000 Choice points per night. I had those points by buying them at a steep discount, but I would happily return again using my Capital One miles to book it with either Choice or iPrefer (50,000 points/night) if there’s a transfer bonus.

Where to Stay? My Top 3 “I Prefer” Picks
- The Thief or Sommerro (Oslo, Norway): Art-focused luxury in the heart of the city. (50,000 iPrefer points/night)
- The Landmark or The Lancaster (Bangkok): At only 15,000 iPrefer points per night-it’s a steal for a five star hotel in Thailand.
- Hawks Cay Resort (Florida Keys) or The Henderson (Destin, Florida): If you want a high-end beach vibe without leaving the US (75,000 iPrefer points/night)
2. The Virgin Atlantic Premium Play
Partner: Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
The Ratio: 1:1

If you want a stylish, elevated experience, Virgin Atlantic is the way to go. While many steer clear of Doha or the Middle East right now, London remains the perfect gateway to Europe.
- The Strategy: You can often find Premium Economy seats for as low as 13,500 one-way from the East Coast.
- Pricing is dynamic so look at their reward seat checker to see the whole calendar of availability and choose your travel dates based on finding ‘saver’ fares.
- My take: I’ve flown their premium cabins multiple times—the delicious food and extra legroom are game-changers. Read my full Virgin Atlantic Premium Class Review.
- Even their economy is more spacious and pleasant compared to American carriers, and is bookable from 6,000 points each way!
- Tax Warning: Virgin Atlantic is famous for high taxes (think $500–$900 for Upper Class). To keep costs low, look for Premium or Economy redemptions.
- Transfer bonuses: Frequently there are transfer bonuses from 30-40% from all the major card issuers. Be on the lookout, as it can even turn Upper Class into a steal despite the taxes.
- Complete the premium experience by visiting one of the airport lounges included on the Venture X card through Priority Pass or one of the Capital One lounges.
3. The “Double Vacation” via Aeroplan
Partner: Air Canada Aeroplan
The Ratio: 1:1

If you want the luxury of business class without the $900 tax bill of Virgin or British Airways, Aeroplan is your best friend.
- The Strategy: For roughly 70,000 miles, you can book Swiss Business Class or United Polaris to Europe.
- The 5k Add-On: For just 5,000 extra miles (75k total), you can add a stopover in a city like Zurich for a few days before continuing to your final destination. See my complete guide to booking up to six stopovers with Aeroplan.
- The Math: One 75k bonus = A lie-flat bed to Europe + Two countries visited.
- External Tool: PointsYeah – This is the best way to see Lifemiles and Aeroplan availability side-by-side.
See my step-by-step guide on how to book that Swiss Business Class seat for just $60 in taxes.
Why Capital One Beats Citi in 2026
You might hear that Citi also transfers to I Prefer at 1:2 (previously 1:4). But here is why I’m sticking with my Venture X:
- 2x Everywhere: Citi’s cards often only earn 1x on “non-category” spending. Capital One gives you 2x miles on every single dollar.
- Capital One Offers: Earn thousands of miles on everyday purchases by clicking through their portal. I’ve seen offers like get 5,000 miles on a $90 Instacart order and get 15,000 miles from spending $450 on Expedia. The offers change all the time, so check regularly to pick up easy extra miles.
