What I Wore: JAPAN

Packing for a long trip is always tricky, but even more so when you are only bringing a carry on! Since I was only bringing this huge backpack, I didn’t want to lug around anything extra. I pretty much used all the pieces I brought and mixed and matched with many of them. For a longer trip I would emphasize making my items even more multipurpose, but for this itinerary I found that my plan went ideally. Most days were in the 70’s and sunny, cooler at night, and there was only one day that it was very hot and day with some rain, which seems typical for our May visit. Keeping in mind the Japanese style discussed in my last post, here’s what I wore for my first trip to Asia!

Cherry Blossom print skirt from Banana Republic (shop similar), Minnie Mouse graphic T-Shirt from Uniqlo (shop similar)
Transitioned for night by switching out the top for a silky teal long sleeve blouse.

Playing on Japanese graphics, I wore this pop art inspired cherry print button down from Zara with high waisted black jeans from Gant, bringing along my Mango white leather jacket (shop similar) for the cool morning in the mountains.

Since we were visiting areas famous for their ‘cute’ culture I wore a Kate Spade blouse, Banana Republic skirt, and socks from Harajuku, for a fun twist on the schoolgirl look.

Higher altitudes means colder weather so I opted for a ladybug print sweater from Zara and high waisted black jeans from Gant.

Needed to be comfortable for the bullet train ride and light enough for the tropical temperatures, so this embroidered shirt dress from Anthropologie was perfect, continuing with fun socks and Cole Haan loafers.

While it was a little hot for jeans, I finished off using those with an H&M tank top and mixed print wrap top from Zara. Also a mistake: wearing heels to walk a town built on hills.

Rode the bullet train back to Tokyo and played with light in a museum, so wore comfortable culottes from Banana Republic and a Zara top with sheer floral sleeves.
Although not pictured, I wore the same culottes with a fitted green Zara tank top for the early plane ride the next day.
